Super Size Me S’mores!

26 Jul

Ok So here it goes, my first blog. I am choosing a very simple food item, but one that is sure to please. After the most perfect fire pit night on the weekend I decided I had to share our s’more experience. The ingredient list is short and oh so sweet!

  1. bag of size WOW marshmallows – or regular sized marshmallows – if you must.
  2. boxes of cookies with chocolate tops – one milk chocolate (for the kids) and one dark chocolate (for the adults). Dark chocolate does go well with wine, just saying.

see photo – we used President’s Choice Concerto chocolate topped all-butter biscuits, but other brands make these yummy cookies too.Image

The picture on the bag is a little cannibalistic don’t you think?

You will need an assortment of roasting sticks, the perfect fire and a child to roast your marshmallow, it’s a nice addition to the process, but you may have to roast your own. Then sandwich that toasty marshmallow between two cookies (chocolate side in) and voila! yummy s’more. Sound simple right?….

Now please enjoy the photo of the ingredients because once the fire was ready, the bag was opened, roasting sticks at the ready and the s’more frenzy began….every ones fingers were too sticky to touch the camera. Believe me your imagination can take off now. So the size WOW super sized marshmallows seemed like a good idea at the time, but they really overwhelmed the cookies, and our hands, faces, clothes… so we went back to regular sized marshmallows for s’mores. What we did find out was if you are an expert marshmallow roaster those big ones are excellent for multi roasting, you know, peel the first layer of that crunchy browned shell and put the insides back over the fire, but be careful they are so big they can sag & that lucious gooey perfectly browned orb will end up in the ashes. 😦 Did it happen to me? Maybe….just saying, nothing a nice glass of red didn’t fix.

Ah! summer

Til next time

    Mmmm…marshmallows and red wine…
Yes, the marshmallow roasting a fellow marshmallow is a bit creepy. Especially since he seems to be enjoying it so much. And pretty hilarious that the bag loudly proclaims fat free. Must be the small print that states 90% sugar.

Just a quick suggestion maybe you could use chocolate digestive cookies, they are round and may just fit the size wow marshmallows!

Great idea! The cookies had already been purchased then the marshmallows came home. Maybe next time.

What a great idea with the chocolate covered cookies! I wanted to try this on our roadtrip because we were going to be camping, but I couldn’t find the chocolate covered cookies 😦
